Introduction to my Blog

My blog is full of wonderful, heart warming poems, essays, and blogs. The essays explain everything that they are supposed too. Some of the poems are touching and some are funny. Hopefully my blog will explain what my book The Usual Rules, by Joyce Maynard explains everything enough for anyone to understand it. Thank you!

FINAL REFLECTION-short story

Once upon a time there was a girl named Myra. On 9/11 she was in her Math class with her best friend Betsy when the news came; someone had crashed into one of the twin towers. Myra was immediately dismissed and sent home with her Step Dad, Mark. Mark was very quiet at first when Myra got home and that's when Myra was confused. Her little brother Dustin was sitting in his room just playing with his Lego's like nothing had happened. Myra spoke up and asked what was going on and finally Mark said something. "Myra, your mother was on the 87th floor, and hasn't called since the towers were hit."Myra's reaction was shock; not crying, punching things, just anything. All Myra did was just sit there and stare. Mark didn't know what to tell little Dustin. Soon Myra realized that she would have to move on and sadly live with her real dad, Walter. She never really talked to her dad Walter except when he would send letters. Soon it happened, she was there. She soon then also realized that she was going to have to make new friends. She began by lying about who she was which was a horrible idea. Myra began by saying she lived in a huge house and her dad was a doctor and how happy she was. But soon she'd realize when she met a boy that she wouldn't be able to die. There was a boy named Dalton, he met Myra and began to build a crush. She knew she wouldn't be able to lie and have to just tell the truth. Dalton was so moved by Myra's story that they began a very healthy relationship. Finally in the end she was happy living with her father Walter, and soon she realized life wasn't so bad after all.

MY REACTION

My reaction of this book was amazement. I can't believe that I read a book about a 15 year old girl that lost her mother in the twin towers. It really dumb that I complain about something 24/7 or fight with my mom and dad and complain how sometimes I don't want them anymore. Now that I look at it, you think about all the people that lost someone in 9/11. I feel bad for everyone how could this happen to anyone? I just have questions in my head like why why why why?! I just don't understand. I think this book was written to express someones feelings. To make people realize how horrible 9/11 had an affect on people and how we should pull all our soldiers home from the war. I believe that the author was successful getting the message across because this book moved me to tears, it was a book that makes you realize so many things. I think that this book is definitely a book for someone to have a "news flash". This book made me change the looks of things. I think that anyone can read this book and would really enjoy it! Just because the cover is all girly, doesn't mean that a boy can't read it; someone in my class even read it, and he was a boy! As I have said, the novel did help me and had a huge affect on me and from here on out is going to make me realize what I say.

Found Poem

Does god know about this?
Stop it, she told her brain.
But I can't move away anyplace.
I live here.
She opened the case.
It was a cherry red clarinet.
That is some trick, a man said sitting in back of Wendy.
You think you know everything.

Topic of my Choice-Rhyme

Wendy was just a 15 year old girl
when her life gave her a little twirl
she lost her mom
and had to move on
she moved to Cali
and met a girl named Sally
(no, I'm just kidding. But hey, it rhymed)
She began to start over
and realized maybe her luck was like a four leaf clover
soon Wendy figured out
that life wasn't what she thought it was about

Theme-An ode

9/11

On 9/11 there were over 2000 deaths
out of the 2000 deaths there was this one girl who lost her mother
Wendy's mother was on the 87th floor and didn't make it out
Wendy got home that day from school and realized the last time
she would ever saw her mother was in that little red cocktail dress and red pumps
She was soon to realize this wasn't the only thing that would happen
Wendy had to move into her fathers
She never really liked her father, but she learned that she had to "grow on him"
Wendy began a new life style living there, and soon realized life wasn't that bad after all

The Storyline- A ballad

Blog 7 & 8

Blog 7:
Wendy moves on to the decision of moving in with her. She takes one last moment before she has to leave and live with her father to take it all in and think of the memories with her mother. Losing a family member or practically anyone can be the hardest thing anyone can ever go through. Imagine going to school and getting home and being told that someone in your family won't be returning home because there was an accident. When Wendy goes to live with her dad it will be a whole new life for her and a whole new
experience.

Blog 8:
Wendy's having a hard time imagining what was going through her moms head when the Twin Towers had crashed into her work building. Wendy thought about what her mom was saying doing, thinking, she really
didn't know. No one can picture what its like before death, weather its in your sleep or an accident you just can't tell. That's what Wendy wants to know what her mother was feeling. As life always goes on, Wendy packs up her stuff and gets ready to go to California with her Dad and start her life completely over.

Blog 5 & 6

Blog 5:
Wendy hasn't been going to school at all. Because of her mothers supposed death. Wendy says she can only take in so much at a time so she's taking it step by step. All of Wendy's family is coming over and trying to help out. One's by the phone and watching over Wendy, and the other is out looking around and still passing out flyer's. Josh has been taking this harder then Wendy. He tells her everyday how everything is going to be okay and they will be able to move on. Her little brother Louie is still at his friends house waiting to hear the "good" news if Mom has come home yet. The tragedy of 9/11 had an affect on many people. Over
19 terrorists and 2,988 victims. Not only is 13 year old Wendy saddened by the loss of her mother but imagine 2,988 victims family still mourning over the loss of their friend of family member.

Blog 6:
Wendy's friend comes over after school to visit and see how she's recovering. Amelia asks her how shes been and wondering why she hasn't come to school. Soon enough Wendy will believe that her mom is gone and not coming back. Her friend Amelia tries and tries to convince her that things will get better but Wendy has lost all confidence. Wendy's not ready to move on and maybe even live with her father but there is a big chance that she may just have to. Loosing anyone in a family is very hard; weather is over sudden death, accident, sickness, etc. Someone who has to loose their mother or father or even any family member can be the hardest thing to pull through. Wendy doesn't know what decision she is going to make.

The Narrative Essay

Narrative Essay

School

There is nothing worse then getting up at six thirty AM, five days a week, for six hours, just to go to school. Some subjects in school you'll need in life some you won't. For instance, English and History. You need both of those subjects because first of all, English your learning your own language and how to improve and History you need evidence of the past to make things for the future.

My first year of high school, well, it wasn't so bad, but it was a new adventure. The first day was really weird. I had to of course, get up at six thirty and get ready, then I went to school and we were the only ones there. All day we had go on a scavenger hunt and find certain teachers to learn where everyone and everything was. I met a lot of nice teachers and most of them were mine. At the end of the day we had a BBQ with our freshman class.

Day two of my freshman year was fairly scary. We had the freshman, sophmores, juniors, and the seniors. It was the scariest day of my life. Over 1,000 kids on campus and I was just one small little freshman trying to find my way. We were sent to the gym and we had to sit in there till we were dismissed. Our freshman class was of course, the first, so we were booed right away and constantly hearing how much we suck and finally I was in my homeroom which was not near any upperclassman. Finally we were dismissed and it was the scariest walk of my life to Math class in Mr. Davies. I walked in and I saw Taylor and Danielle instantly so I was a little relieved.

Overall, after a week or two everything was better. I knew wear I was going and I only got lost once. I couldn't find my english class but that was the only time I got lost. Now that I'm a sophomore I got the hang of things and I know where I'm going. I think that high school really isn't a bad thing.

Blog 3 & 4

Blog 3:

In the Usual Rules by Joyce Maynard Wendy's in school and finds out that the Twin Tower in NYC has been hit by a plane. Wendy has to stay in class and can't leave until a parent or guardian comes to get her. Finally Josh arrives and Wendy is dismissed. They go home and just sit there watching the TV looking for Mama to appear in the background. Wendy has never seen Josh so nervous and upset before. Wendy told herself everything was going to be okay and Mama would come home soon. Therefore, if Mama didn't come home Wendy and Josh knew where she would be. Heaven. Wendy's life is going to change now if her mom is gone, just like anyone elses life would if a immediate family member dies.

Blog 4:

Wendy's step father,Josh, finally decides to make his flyer's. He describes her as; Petite, wearing a red dress and red pumps. Please help us find her. Wendy still in shock of her mother not coming home after the first day. She wanted to help Josh put out the flyer's but it was almost impossible. Everywhere they were, there would be flyer's everywhere. Wendy didn't want to cover other peoples flyer's so she had to be very careful about putting them on wherever she put them on. After a couple days Wendy was starting to realize her mom wasn't coming home anymore. She had this weird feeling that if half the people in the Twin Towers hadn't shown up yet neither was her mother. Josh kept telling her "Don't loose hope, your mom could come back". Wendy just really didn't know what to do anymore. She thought it was time to give up.

Descriptive Essay: My Cell Phone

Haley Bresnahan

Descriptive Essay

Cell Phone
My cell phone is Moto Q9C blackberry. It is black, has a full keyboard, and is always by my side. The cell phone is very important because we can make calls when we are not at home. Also, in case of an emergency anyone who has a cell phone is right there for your use! I really like my cell phone because when I'm bored somewhere, cell phones aren't only handy for calls and texting, they have games too! When I'm sitting somewhere with nothing to do I usually play my game bubble breaker. My cell phone is just like a mini laptop brought everywhere. The Moto literally has everything on it from a game to a translator. It literally has everything! I always say I don't like my cell phone, but I am very lucky to even have a cell phone. I see many people still today my age and older that don't even have one.

Having my cell phone around has saved me in many situations. This one time I was with my friend Erin down in Old Orchard Beach and her phone died and we were "lost" somehow and we knew my dad would be calling so thankfully I had my cell phone so he could call and wonder where we were. Another time was when I was with my mom and she forgot her cell phone at home and my brother was younger and she didn't want him to be all alone at the house so she was trying to get a hold of him before he got home to leave him a message so she wouldn't have to go back and write him a note, and then all she had to do was use my cell phone! Then she did! I'm lucky to always have my cell phone around and not have it taken away, because situations like these could happen and you never know when you'll need a cell phone!

Whoever invented the cell phone must have been very intelligent! In many ways the cell phone is something good to have around. Of course the cell phone can be a very dangerous thing also. Just like the problem with talking & texting while driving. It can be a very big problem if someone looks down to read a text or see whose calling and someone suddenly in front of them breaks. Boom! You would instantly rear end the person and it would be your fault for playing with your cell phone.

Even though the cell phone can be a hazard or a good thing, overall I love my cell phone. My cell phone is just very important to have around and I'm really lucky to have it. So maybe if my mother reads this descriptive essay she can see how thankful I am for my cell phone!

The Usual Rules: Blog 1 & 2

Blog 1:In the Usual Rules by Joyce Maynard starts with a comparison. Wendy compares her life to Peter Pan. Wendy lives with her Step Dad and his son, and her mother. She gets up on a daily basis with her step dad because her mother sleeps in. He usually makes her a delightful breakfast, so she claims. Her life other then compared to Peter Pan is quite different then you'd think. Many people when their parents get married they usually, not always, suspect their "new" family member. Wendy at first of course didn't really appreciate her step dad but really learned to like him. Ever since her mom got re-married she has really learned to like and has built quite the relationship with him.

Blog 2: Wendy began to talk about her father. Her dad lives away from her and she doesn't really like him. Her mom wanted to plan a trip for her, when Wendy heard that she wasn't to excited. She had explained a little about how he really just hasn't been around in her life so she wasn't the biggest fan of him. Also, if she went go and visit him she really wouldn't have much to say because she hasn't really had a relationship with him. Sometimes when parents split up at such a young age kids aren't able to build a relationship with their other parent because maybe they had moved away and chose not to ever take their son/daughter.

2 Poems

The Yellow Lemon

the taste of the yellow lemon
reminded me of the summer

the lemon just like the sun
shining in the sky

the touch of it just like
a leather jacket

the sour taste like
sour patch kids you eat at the movies

the taste of a yellow lemon

Eyes

The blue eyes used to look at their love one
The hazel eyes to look while their driving
The brown eyes to see where their going on the beach
The green eyes to find something small in the ground
The eyes are used for everything
